Art show at library downtown - Jennifer Campbell

Be sure to see my new assemblage art works at the central branch of the Multnomah County Library at 801 SW 10th in downtown Portland. The show is in the Friends of the Library Store and will be up until the end of November. As I created these pieces I added more and more 3-D ephemera as I worked. See if you can guess which is the first and which is the last!

Heart Canvases Redone by Lenall Siebenaler

I reworked the heart canvases I started last week. They were just too something. I don't know what. Now they are probably too something else! :0) The color is off on these they are much more bright.

I  call this my French heart, as it was inspired by some I saw in Paris. It is felted with silk and mixed fiber streamers, suitable for hanging.

We have all been busily working on new things to tempt our coustomers at the Open Doors show Dec4 and 5th. These sachets were begun in my Paris apartment (ribbon is easy to pack) and finshed in Portland. I love to cluster them together, as they are one of a kind and I like to see the subtle color combinations and gradations.

Beaucoup Valentines! By Lenall Siebenaler

I was working on the valentine canvases I posted earlier this week. I decided that they were too personal so I needed to take the personal away. That sounds weird, but in essence, that is just what I did. I had some extra paint and so I decided to use it making some monoprints for cards. That little bit of extra paint lead to a day of card making and wrapping.

Why can't I stop? Enough should be enough. I guess it's an obsession. It was a good day.

Danglies by Jennifer Campbell

What great fun it is to create these danglies from my collection of vintage tins! So far my favorite is the "Tiger" danglie. Each danglie measures from 3" long up to about 6" long.

How many years have I said I was going to make bookmarks? Too many!

Can you keep a secret? I've been all about recycling what I have this year and not buying anything more to create for the show. It's been an interesting experience and I have been sucessful except for purchasing some items for Art and Soul. This weekend, I was gathering all the things that I have been making and I came across the 2009 calendars I made last year. Without thinking I threw them away and then picked them right out of the garbage and asked myself, "What can I do with these?" The idea came quickly. I ended up cutting them to size and 1/2 of the book marks are made with these recycled painted covers... The other ones are made with my Mixed Media Madness mother board paper. They are enclosed in a plastic sleeve made for bookmarks and the backs have a vintage playing card back and a typed quotation about either reading or friends glued on to it...

Doesn't everyone read? I think so. Bookmarks are like jewelry or flowers. You can never have too many!

One of my doors at the show will house Valentines day merchandise. This weekend, I did 3 new small mixed media canvases with hearts and personal quotes. They are actually highly personal. The door will also hold cards, pins and another painting called "Branches through Time." I am also working on mixed media hearts with quotations.

Felted and Embroidered Purses by Lenall Siebenaler

I spent the entire weekend working in my garage. I basically finished a lot of pieces and projects that I had started earlier. One of the projects was these purses I had started the first day I ever felted at a felting retreat at Silver Falls Retreat Center with the Purl District, a knitting store in Silverton. Later that year, I embellished them with embroidery and beads at Menucha. I am glad to finially finish them! I think they turned out rather cute and quirky.
